Qualifications for The Old Guard
Applicants must:
- Display the highest level of musical proficiency
- Have no physical hindrance to marching or movement (Marching experience is not necessary, however precision marching and maneuvering is a requirement of the position and will be a significant part of the audition process)
- Be capable of performing while marching without the aid of glasses or be able to wear contact lenses
- Adhere to strict appearance guidelines (Tattoos are authorized in accordance with current Army regulations; however tattoos that are visible while wearing ceremonial blues are not allowed by The Old Guard handbook policy. Specifically, tattoos cannot be visible above a dress shirt collar [neck] or beyond a suit coat cuff [forearm] while in the playing position.) AR 670-1
- Have U.S. citizenship (or legal permanent residency status)
- Be able to obtain a security clearance
- Enlist for a minimum of 4 years (with notification of acceptance prior to enlistment)
- Be between 18-35 years old
- Comply with active duty Army height and weight standards, not recruit entrance standards
- Successfully complete/pass all U.S. Army prerequisites for entry into military service. (Once you have submitted your audition packet you must contact a local recruiter to ensure you are an eligible candidate. The requirements are stringent; please allow ample time for processing.)
